 Kevin Jaskiewicz is the men's basketball head coach, taking over for Pete Barry, who retired after 19 seasons. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(8/18/09)--Kevin Jaskiewicz has been named the interim head coach of the Coast Guard Academy men’s basketball team replacing Pete Barry, who retired after 19 seasons.
“It is an honor to teach and coach at such an outstanding institution,” said Jaskiewicz. “The NEWMAC is a terrific league with great teams and coaches. I am looking forward to putting my years of experience to the test.”
Jaskiewicz, who was an assistant coach with Coast Guard for the past three seasons, has had success coaching at every level of college basketball. He has been part of the Coast Guard coaching staff that won back-to-back New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championships in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Bears won a school-record 24 games and advanced all the way to the Elite 8 in 2007-2008. |

 Pete Barry, the all-time winningest basketball coach in school history, won 262 games in 19 years at Coast Guard. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(6/9/09)--Pete Barry, the all-time winningest men’s basketball coach at the Coast Guard Academy, has announced his retirement.
Barry, who coached at the both the high school and college level for a combined 40 years, posted a record of 262-216 (.548) in 19 years as the head coach at the Coast Guard Academy and he finishes his collegiate career with a record of 413-315 (.567) in 27 seasons.
He led the Bears to the greatest season in Academy history in the 2007-2008 season when the team won a school-record 24 games and advanced all the way to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III tournament. The Bears won their second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament championship that season after winning the program’s first NEWMAC tournament championships in the 2006-2007 after finishing in last place during the regular season. He was named the D3hoops.com Northeast Region Coach of the Year in 2007-2008. |

 Craig Johnson continues to collect postseason accolades. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/8/09)--Senior Craig Johnson has been named to the ECAC Division III New England All-Star second team.
Johnson, a D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region second team for the second straight time and first-team All-conference selection for the third straight time, was second in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), in scoring (20.7), he was first in rebounding (10.0), second in field goal percentage (.564) and sixth in assists per game (2.88).
Coast Guard finished 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the NEWMAC this season. |
