 Al Sowers became the Bears' all-time leader in 3-pointers. NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(2/6/08)--Senior Al Sowers became Coast Guard’s all-time leader in 3-point field goals and he led all scorers with 20 points while classmate Jeff Prebeck had 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds including the 1,000th rebound of his career leading the Bears to 60-57 win over Wheaton in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Sowers scored with 1:31 left giving the Bears a 60-56 lead. Sophomore Ben Stehle hit one of two free throws with 27.7 seconds left, Prebeck missed the front end of a one-and-one with 23.8 seconds left, giving Wheaton a chance to tie.
Senior Brent DiGiovanna missed a 3-pointer with seven seconds left, but Stehle grabbed an offensive rebound and the Lyons called timeout with 1.2 second left. Stehle had a good look at a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer, but it was no good. |

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/2/08)--Junior Jerome Kirkland led all scorers with 16 points while senior Jim Marois added 15 points leading WPI to a 66-57 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard scored the first five points of the game and led 11-8 with 14:52 left in the first half before WPI used a 9-2 run including a pair of 3-pointers by junior NT Izuchi taking a 17-13 lead with 11:06 left.
The Bears answered with six straight including back-to-back baskets by freshman Jevon James to take its last lead of the game 19-17 with 9:05 left. |

BABSON PARK, MASS.--(1/30/08)--Babson hit a season-high 12 three-pointers on its way to a hard-fought 78-70 win over the visiting Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Staake Gymnasium on Wednesday night. With the win, the Beavers improved to 5-11 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while the Bears dropped to 11-5 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC.
Senior Brian MacDonald led all scorers with 20 points in the win for Babson, as he hit 8-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from long range. Senior tri-captain Kyle McDonald shot 5-for-9, including a 3-for-5 clip from beyond the arc, and 5-for-6 from the line for 18 points while also dishing out eight assists, and sophomore Zach Etten shot 4-for-6, including 3-for-5 from three-point range, and 4-for-4 from the stripe for 15 points. The Beavers also received a magnificent performance off the bench from first-year guard Shelton Ladson, as he recorded nine points and seven rebounds in just 14 minutes, including two huge buckets during a pivotal stretch late in the game. |

(photo by Jeff Bartlett) NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/23/08)--Junior John Strawson had a game-high 21 points including an old fashion three-point play with 12.4 seconds left giving Springfield, its first conference win of the season, as they beat host Coast Guard 57-55 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard sophomore Stefan Lewis hit a 3-pointer with 45.4 seconds left giving the Bears a 55-54 lead. Strawson, who hit a jumper off the glass with 12.4 left for the lead, had also given the Pride the lead 54-52 on a basket with 1:11 left.
Springfield (6-10, 1-3), which led by as many as six in the first half, led 27-23 at halftime. |
