Men's Basketball - Barry Retires After 19 Years at Coast Guard

Pete Barry, the all-time winningest basketball coach in school history, won 262 games in 19 years at Coast Guard.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(6/9/09)--Pete Barry, the all-time winningest men’s basketball coach at the Coast Guard Academy, has announced his retirement.

Barry, who coached at the both the high school and college level for a combined 40 years, posted a record of 262-216 (.548) in 19 years as the head coach at the Coast Guard Academy and he finishes his collegiate career with a record of 413-315 (.567) in 27 seasons.

He led the Bears to the greatest season in Academy history in the 2007-2008 season when the team won a school-record 24 games and advanced all the way to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III tournament. The Bears won their second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament championship that season after winning the program’s first NEWMAC tournament championships in the 2006-2007 after finishing in last place during the regular season. He was named the D3hoops.com Northeast Region Coach of the Year in 2007-2008.

Men's Basketball - Johnson Named an ECAC All-Star

Craig Johnson continues to collect postseason accolades.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/8/09)--Senior Craig Johnson has been named to the ECAC Division III New England All-Star second team.

Johnson, a D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region second team for the second straight time and first-team All-conference selection for the third straight time, was second in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), in scoring (20.7), he was first in rebounding (10.0), second in field goal percentage (.564) and sixth in assists per game (2.88).

Coast Guard finished 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the NEWMAC this season.

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/23/09)--Senior Craig Johnson was named to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region second team for the second straight season.

Johnson, a first-team All-conference selection for the third straight time, was second in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), in scoring (20.7), he was first in rebounding (10.0), second in field goal percentage (.564) and sixth in assists per game (2.88).

Coast Guard finished 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the NEWMAC this season.

Johnson leaves as the Bears all-time leading scorer with 1,715 points, he is third all-time at the Academy with 898 rebounds and 12th with 215 career assists.

Johnson was second in the NEWMAC in scoring (20.7), he was first in rebounding (10.0), second in field goal percentage (.564) and sixth in assists per game (2.88).

Coast Guard finished 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the NEWMAC this season.
