 Craig Johnson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to OT as the Bears knocked off MIT. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/7/09)--Senior Craig Johnson, who had 20 of his team-high 22 points in the second half, hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer to send the game into overtime and the Bears, who trailed 16-2 to start the game, rallied for a 67-63 overtime win over MIT in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Jimmy Bartolotta, who finished with a game-high 38 points, scored the first basket of overtime giving MIT a 63-61 lead. Junior Eric Hudson tied the game for Coast Guard with 2:17 left.
Johnson made a pair of free throws with 1:30 left, Hudson made one of two with 12.3 left and Johnson sealed the come-from-behind win with one of two freebies with 2.1 seconds left. |

 Trip Fernandes had a career-high 13 points in the loss. NORTON, MASS.--(2/4/09)--Wheaton used a late 13-0 run to overcome a nine-point second-half deficit enroute to a 68-58 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball contest on Wednesday evening in Emerson Gymnasium.
The Lyons, who swept the regular season series for the first time since 2003-04, improved to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the league to remain third in the conference. Coast Guard, which won the past two league tournaments, fell to 8-11 and 1-7.
After trailing by nine points with less than 13 minutes remaining in the contest, the hosts slowly chipped away, as sophomore Ryan Sasso's three made it 48-42 before senior Mark Sullivan's second long-range shot of the night made the score 52-47 at 7:52. With his team down by six, Sasso dished to freshman Anthony Weeks for another trey before tying the contest 1:11 later when his three rattled around the rim and fell at 6:03. |

 Brett Huntley had a career-high 18 points in the loss at WPI. WORCESTER, MASS.--(1/31/09)--Jerome Kirkland had 13 of his team-high 17 points in the first half to lead WPI to a 66-57 win over visiting Coast Guard in NEWMAC men’s basketball action.
Ben Etten and Jeffrey Robinson each added 10 for the Engineers who, in winning their eighth straight, improved to 16-3 and 7-0 in conference play.
WPI went on the attack early in the game, opening up a 17-6 lead in the first 6:55 due in large part to effective shooting from behind the arc. The hosts shot 46.2% from long distance in the first half (6-for-13), including three from Kirkland to help the Engineers establish a double digit lead. The Bears also had it working from long range. Nine straight points including two 3-pointers from Brett Huntley pushed Coast Guard to within four at 19-15, but WPI responded by closing the half on a 21-9 spurt to take a 40-24 lead into the locker room. |

 Theo Jensen was one of three Bears in double figures in the loss. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/28/09)--Senior Zach Etten’s jumper with 2.9 seconds left lifted Babson to its first conference win of the season and snapped a six-game losing as the Beavers beat Coast Guard 60-58 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard (8-9, 1-5), which trailed by as many as 12 points at 21-9 with 8:22 left in the first half, took its first lead of the game on a pair of free throws by freshman Theo Jensen with 11:37 left in the game, 43-41.
The Bears pushed the lead to six at 54-48 on a 3-pointer by Jensen with 6:13 left before Babson scored six straight and tied the game 54-54 on a basket by freshman Marcus Edwards with 4:04 left. |
