 Kevin Sowers had 15 points, six rebounds and six assists to lead the Bears. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/29/11)--Sophomore Russell Braithwaite was a perfect six for six from the floor and finished with a game-high 20 points and Babson shot 64.7 percent (11 of 17) in the second half leading the Beavers to a 69-62 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Babson improves to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play while Coast Guard drops to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard had the biggest lead of the first half 18-12 with 10:04 left in the back-and-forth first half which saw the game tied ten times including 33-33 at halftime.
Sophomore Ed Gailor knocked down a 3-pointer with 13:22 left to give Coast Guard a 42-41 lead, but Babson used a 12-2 run for a 44-53 lead with 8:56 left in the game. |

 Devonte Weems led the Bears with 18 points and five rebounds. CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(1/27/11)--Sophomore Mitchell Kates had 17 of his game-high 27 points in the second half while classmate Will Tashman had 18 of his game-high 26 points in the first half leading MIT to an 85-66 win over Coast Guard in the battle for second place in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
MIT and Coast Guard both entered the evening tied for second place with 3-2 conference records. The Engineers improve to 14-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play while the Bears drop to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Jamie Karraker was five for six from 3-point range and finished with 17 points for the Engineers who shot 60 percent from the field (30-50) while making nine of 15 from behind the arc. The Bears also shot well as they finished 23-47 from the floor (48.9 percent). |

 Jevon James averaged a double-double and earned NEWMAC Player of the Week honors. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/24/11)--Coast Guard senior Jevon James has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
James had a huge week as he registered a pair of double-doubles as Coast Guard beat Wheaton and lost to rival Conn. College in overtime this week.
Jevon averaged 18 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks in the two games as he was 13 of 28 from the floor while making 10 of 15 from the free throw line. He had career-highs with 25 points and six blocks to go with a season-high 15 rebounds in the win over Wheaton. |

 Jevon James had a huge night, including a career-high 25 points, in the win over Wheaton. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/19/11)--Senior Jevon James had a career-high 25 points, a season-high 15 rebounds and a career-high six blocks while freshman Devonte Weems had career-highs with 21 points and five assists leading Coast Guard to a 90-77 win over Wheaton in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
James had a huge first half with 16 points and 11 rebounds in the first 20 minutes while Weems had 17 points in the second half.
Weems was 7 for 10 from the floor, made his only 3-pointer and made 6 of 7 from the foul line and grabbed six rebounds as the Bears improved to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Coast Guard used a 14-3 spurt, the final six on a pair of 3-pointers by senior Adam Radtke, turning a 20-17 lead into a 34-20 advantage with 4:18 left in the opening half. The Bears led by as many as 17 at 42-25 with 33 seconds left before Wheaton scored the final four points of the half to trail 42-29. |
