Men's Basketball - Prebeck Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

Coast Guard's All-time leading scorer, Jeff Prebeck, earned NEWMAC Player of the Week honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/21/08)--Coast Guard Academy senior Jeff Prebeck was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week as the Bears won two of three games.

Prebeck averaged 16 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals in a 2-1 week for the Bears and he became the Academy's all-time leading scorer during the week.

He shot 51.4 percent from the floor (19-37). He hit a shot with two seconds left in regulation to send the Conn. College game into OT, before CGA lost.

Coast Guard also had NEWMAC wins over MIT and Wheaton during the week.

NORTON, MASS.--(1/19/08)--Sophomore Stefan Lewis made the most of his first career start as he scored a season-high 14 points, on a perfect 4-for-4-from floor and he had a team-high five assists as all five Coast Guard starters scored in double figures leading the Bears to a 74-61 win over host Wheaton in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Men's Basketball - Bears Snap Three-Game Slide; Beat MIT

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/16/08)--MIT scored the first nine points of the game and built a 19-7 lead in the first six minutes before Coast Guard used a 23-3 run to win its first New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the season with a 64-58 win over the Engineers.

The Engineers (9-6, 1-2) hit their first three 3-pointers and jumped out to a 9-0 lead. MIT made its first five 3-pointers, the fifth by Will Mroz for a 19-7 lead with 14:17 left in the first half.

Coast Guard (10-3, 1-2) then responded by outscoring MIT 23-3 including 15 straight to take a 30-22 lead with 2:47 left in the first half. The Bears led 33-27 at the break.

Men's Basketball - Bears Rally From 18 Point Deficit, Fall in OT

Jeff Prebeck became the Bears' all-time leading scorer and finished the night with 1,406 points.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/14/08)--Connecticut College outscored Coast Guard 11-2 in the final 4:45 of overtime after the Camels squandered an 18-point second half lead and host Conn. College ran its winning streak to four straight with a thrilling 53-46 overtime win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game between the two New London rivals. The win snapped the Camels three-game losing streak in the series against the Bears.

Coast Guard senior Jeff Prebeck sent the game to overtime with an offensive rebound and putback with two seconds left capping a 9-0 run by the Bears.

Junior Billy Karis hit a 3-pointer with 3:49 left as the Camels led 42-33 before Coast Guard scored the final nine points in regulation including Prebeck’s offensive rebound and putback with two seconds left. Prebeck scored the first five points of the nine point run on back-to-back baskets and a free throw and Craig Johnson’s basket cut the lead to 42-40 with 1:49 left. Prebeck, who led Coast Guard with 17 points and 11 rebounds, became the Bears’ all-time leading scorer with his basket with 2:56 remaining. Prebeck now has 1,406 career points breaking the previous mark of 1,402 held by Mark Harris (’96).
