Men's Basketball - Bears Score Record 113 Points in Win over Mitchell

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/19/08)--Coast Guard scored 32 straight points including the final 27 of the first half as the Bears set a single-game school record with 113 points and the host Bears ran their winning streak to five straight with a 113-61 non-conference win over Mitchell in the battle of the two New London schools.

Coast Guard (16-6), which had seven players in double figures led by senior Jeff Prebeck’s 15 points, led 28-24 with 6:56 left in the first half before the Bears blew the game open by scoring the final 27 points of the first half and then scored the the first five points of the second half as the Bears took a 60-24 lead with 19:13 left in the game.

Men's Basketball - Streaking Bears Win Fourth Straight

Al Sowers led the way with 14 points and four assists.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/16/08)--Senior Al Sowers led all scorers with 14 points to go with his game-high four assists leading Coast Guard to its fourth straight win, a 50-44 victory over Babson in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Coast Guard (15-6, 6-5) takes over sole possession of second place with just one league game to play while Babson (8-14, 5-5) drops a half game behind the Bears with two games left on their conference schedule.

Babson (8-14, 5-5) led 10-9 with 10:47 left in the first half before Coast Guard used a 10-3 run, the final two baskets by senior Jeff Prebeck to take a 19-13 lead with 2:52 left in the half. Coast Guard led 25-18 at the break.

Men's Basketball - Grant Johnson Scores 1,000th as Bears win Third Straight

WORCESTER, MASS.--(2/13/08)--Senior Grant Johnson became the 18th member of the Coast Guard Academy men's basketball 1,000 point club and junior Craig Johnson led all scorers with 20 points and a game-hgih 12 rebounds leading the Bears to their third straight win, a 75-70 win over Clark in a NEWMAC game.

Senior Al Sowers added 14 points while classmate Jeff Prebeck had 11 points for Coast Guard (14-6, 5-5) which shot 50.9 percent from the field (27-53), yet made just 16 of 30 from the foul line (53.3%).

Men's Basketball - Craig Johnson Leads Bears Past MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(2/9/08)--Junior Craig Johnson scored a game-high 22 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Coast Guard to a 58-52 victory over MIT at Rockwell Cage on Saturday. The Engineers were without the services of two starters and struggled to their worst shooting performance of the season as the Bears swept the regular-season series for the first time since 2000-01.

MIT (12-10, 3-6) scored just eight points through the first half of the opening period while shooting 2-of-13 from the floor. Playing without Bradley Gampel and Jimmy Bartolotta for the second consecutive game resulted in a mismatch against Coast Guard’s (13-6, 4-5) experienced-laden squad.
