Volleyball - Bears Win Sixth Straight; Improve to 17-4

MIDDLETOWN, CONN.--(10/6/10)--Visiting Coast Guard won its sixth consecutive match this season in raising its record for the year to a hefty 17-4 by defeating Wesleyan, 3-0.

Wesleyan fell to 4-7 on the year while dropping its fourth match in a row this season.

The first two sets were nip-and-tuck into the mid-teens, scoring-wise, before the Bears used strong finishes to grab tight victories.

The third set was all Coast Guard as the Bears closed out the match going away.

Wesleyan led early in each of the opening sets, holding leads of 6-2 and 5-2. An 11-6 Wesleyan advantage in the opener was erased by a 16-4 Coast Guard run as the visitors took the lead for good, 15-14, en route to a 22-15 edge. Coast Guard got the three points it needed to five by the Cardinals for a 25-20 opening-set triumph.

Volleyball - Bears Run Win Streak to Five; Beat WPI

Kelsey DePorto led the Bears to their fifth straight win.
WORCESTER, MASS.--(10/5/10)--Coast Guard freshman Kelsey DePorto notched seven kills and three blocks as the Bears downed host WPI in straight sets Tuesday night in a NEWMAC conference match (25-13, 25-17, 25-20).

Coast Guard ran its win streak to five and improved to 16-4 and 4-1 in conference action, while WPI drops to 15-3 and 3-2 in NEWMAC play.

Coast Guard sophomore Karen Matic led the way with 25 assists while junior Nicole Johnson registered 11 kills for the Bears.

Senior Jessica Anderson anchored the defensive effort by amassing 15 digs, while freshman Lexie Ludewig and sophomore Catherine Walker each posted 10 digs and Lauren Bloch joined DePorto with three blocks.

Volleyball - Bloch Earns NEWMAC Weekly Honors

Lauren Bloch was named the NEWMAC Player of the Week as the Bears won all four matches last week.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/4/10)--Coast Guard Academy sophomore Lauren Bloch was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Player of the Week as the Bears won all four matches last week.

Coast Guard, ranked eighth in New England, improved to 15-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play with a 3-0 win over Mitchell, 3-1 wins over Smith and Emerson, ranked 13th in the region, and a 3-2 win over Eastern Connecticut.

Volleyball - Bears Win Pair at Eastern Conn.

Karen Matic had 98 assists and 50 digs as the Bears won a pair of matches.
WILLIMANTIC, CONN.--(10/2/10)--Coast Guard ranked 8th in New England, won a pair of matches beating Emerson 3-1 and host Eastern Connecticut 3-2 to improve to 15-4 on the season.

In the first match of the day, Emerson, 13th in New England, won the first set 25-23 before the Bears won a marathon second set 36-34 to even the match, there were 22 ties before Coast Guard broke the final one at 34-all.

Coast Guard won the third set 25-22 and in the last set, Coast Guard scored the first five points but Emerson later scored three points in a row to tie it at 18-18. The Bears broke from the final tie, 21-21 to take the lead for good enroute to a 25-23 win.
