Volleyball - Bears Win Key NEWMAC Showdown Over Wellesley

Kelsey DePorto had 15 kills and five blocks leading the Bears past Wellesley.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/26/10)--Freshman Kelsey DePorto had 15 kills and five blocks as Coast Guard, ranked fifth in New England, won a key New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match beating Wellesley, ranked ninth in New England, 3-1 to take over sole possession of second place.

Coast Guard won by set scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-14 in a battle of teams that came into the match both with 6-1 records in conference play and tied for second place.

The Bears jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set, Wellesley pulled to within 21-18 before the Bears won it 25-20.

Wellesley evened the match in the second set by scoring six of the final eight points turning a 19-18 lead into a 25-20 win.

Volleyball - Mason Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

Keriann Mason was the third Coast Guard player in the last four weeks to win NEWMAC Player of the Week honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/25/10)--Coast Guard Academy sophomore outside hitter Keriann Mason was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Player of the Week.

Coast Guard wins the award for the second straight week and third time in the last four weeks as freshman Kelsey DePorto was the NEWMAC Player of the Week last week and sophomore Lauren Bloch earned the award earlier this month.

Mason, a NEWMAC first team All-conference selection, last season, missed most of this season following offseason surgery, but has made an impact since returning two weeks ago.

Last week she had 43 kills (3.31 per game) and 77 digs (5.92 per game) as the Bears, ranked fifth in New England, went 3-1 to improve to 24-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

Volleyball - Bears Win Streak Snapped

Keriann Mason led the Bears with 24 kills in the tri-match split.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/23/10)--Junior Amy Newman combined for 37 kills as Connecticut College swept a tri-match beating host Coast Guard 3-1 and Endicott 3-0. Coast Guard beat Endicott 3-0 in the other match.

Conn. College, ranked sixth in the New England poll, knocked off fifth ranked Coast Guard 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 26-24, 25-22) to snap the Bears winning streak at 12.

Newman had 22 kills while senior Molly Barrett added eight kills and classmate Katie Shragge had seven blocks to lead the Camels. Senior Marissa DeMais had a match-high 45 assists and junior Ally Terlizzi added 12 digs in the winn.

Volleyball - Make it a Dozen; Bears Hold Off Trinity

Lauren Bloch (8) and Kelsey DePorto (9) led the way as the Bears won their 12th straight.
HARTFORD, CONN.--(10/21/10)--Coast Guard, ranked fifth in the New England regional poll, extended its winning streak to 12 by holding off Trinity, ranked tenth in the region, 3-2 in a non-conference match between the two Connecticut teams.

The Bears won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-14 before Trinity kept its upset hopes alive by rallying to even the match with a 25-15 win in set three and a 25-22 win in the fourth set for force a fifth and a deciding set. Coast Guard won the fifth set 15-10 to improve to 23-4 on the season.

Sophomore Lauren Bloch had a game-high 18 kills while classmate Keriann Mason added 33 digs and a pair of aces to lead Coast Guard.

Coast Guard took a 2-0 lead in the match, using a 9-3 run to close out the first set, 25-19, and controlling the next frame from beginning to end with a 25-14 triumph.
