Volleyball - Hickle Leads Bears Past Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, MASS.--(9/20/11)--Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Hickle posted 10 kills and four service aces to lead Coast Guard to a 3-0 victory over host Mount Holyoke in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.

Coast Guard won by game scores of 25-18, 25-12, 25-13.

Hickle was aided by junior outside hitter Keriann Mason, who collected seven kills and eight digs. Classmate Catherine Walker recorded eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Sam Marmolejo chipped in with eight digs. The Bears also received a boost from junior setter Karen Matic, who racked up 30 assists.

The Bears bounced back from a 3-1 loss at Springfield on Saturday which knocked them out of the Top 25. Coast Guard is now 7-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Volleyball - #25 Bears Lose at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(9/17/11)--Tessa Smolinski spearheaded a collective team effort as Springfield toppled 25th-ranked Coast Guard in four sets in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Pride won by the scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 27-25.

Springfield, which is off to its best start since 2004, now stands at 10-0 on the season, including a 2-0 record in league play. The Bears drop to 6-2, 1-1.

In a rematch of last season's NEWMAC Tournament Championship, Springfield used 20 kills to Smolinski, who hit a smoldering .400 for the match, to control the tempo. Lauren Torvi added 17 kills, while Itza Nieves was terrific on the defensive side of the ball with 21 digs. Molly Giannattasio ran Springfield's offense with 39 assists.

Volleyball - #25 Bears Win NEWMAC Opener

NORTON, MASS.--(9/13/11)-- Sophomore Kelsey DePorto led the defending New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament champion Bears with nine kills as #25 Coast Guard beat Wheaton 3-0 in the NEWMAC opener for both teams.

Coast Guard, which earned the #25 ranking in the weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll earlier in the day, won by set scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 to improve to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Wheaton drops to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Volleyball - Bears Roll Past Merchant Marine

Kelsey Hickle had four aces as the Bears cruised to win over Merchant Marine.
KINGS POINT, N.Y.--(9/10/11)--Junior Keriann Mason led a balanced Coast Guard attack with 10 kills while freshman Kelsey Hickle added four aces as the Bears beat rival Merchant Marine 3-0.

The Bears won 25-14, 25-14, 25-12 to improve to 5-1 on the young season. The loss was the first of the season for the Mariners.

Junior Karen Matic led the Bears with 16 assists while sophomore Kelsey DePorto and junior Catherine Walker combined for nine kills and five blocks in the win.
