 Kelsey DePorto led the Bears to a pair of wins at the UMass-Boston Invitational. BOSTON, MASS.--(10/8/11)--Coast Guard won two of three matches at the UMass-Boston Invitational.
Coast Guard opened the day with a 3-2 win over RIT. The Bears won the opener 25-20 before dropping both the second and third sets 25-23. Coast Guard then tied the match with a 25-22 win and closed it out with a 15-10 win.
UMass-Boston, ranked 11th nationally, beat the Bears 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-13) in Coast Guard’s second match of the day. |

 Kelsey Hickle and Leigh Anne Brazier go for a block in the Dig Pink night win. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/5/11)--Junior Keriann Mason had ten kills and seven digs leading Coast Guard to a 3-0 win over Wesleyan in a DIG PINK game to honor those who have survived cancer, those who are currently fighting it and those who will experience it.
Coast Guard, wearing its special pink uniforms for the match, won by game scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-17 to improve to 13-4 on the season. Wesleyan dropped to 4-11 overall.
The Bears jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening game and pushed the lead to nine at 17-8. Coast Guard maintained that advantage leading 22-13 before senior Fallon Bowers came on to serve the final three points to close out the game. |

 Catherine Walker led the balanced Coast Guard attack in the win. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/4/11)--Junior Catherine Walker had nine kills, six digs and a pair of aces leading a balanced Coast Guard attack as the Bears snapped WPI’s winning streak at eight with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-17) win in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.
Coast Guard started off fast scoring the first seven points in the first game behind the serving of freshman Kelsey Hickle and increased the lead to 15-2. WPI would get as close as ten on four different occasions the last being 18-8 before the Bears scored seven of the final ten points for the 25-11 win.
The second game started the exact same way as the Bears raced out to a 7-0 lead, this time behind the serving of sophomore Sam Marmolejo. WPI fought back cutting the lead to 10-6 and trailed 13-11 before Coast Guard ran off 12 for the next 15 to win the game 25-14. |

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/2/11)--The Coast Guard Academy volleyball team will host a DIG PINK game on Wednesday night vs. Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
DIG PINK is to honor those who have survived cancer, those who are currently fighting it and those who will experience it.
Coast Guard will wear special pink uniforms for the match. Please come out and show your support for all of the organizations that are helping bring awareness, diagnoses and care for cancer patients.
Admission as always, is free. |
