 Nicole Gurr led the Bears to a pair of wins over Mitchell and Salve Regina. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/4/08)--Senior Nicole Gurr had 21 kills, 18 digs, 10 aces and eight blocks leading Coast Guard to a pair of wins over Mitchell and Salve Regina on Homecoming Weekend.
Coast Guard beat Mitchell 3-0 (25-6, 25-14, 25-5) as Gurr had 10 kills, 11 digs, seven aces and two blocks. Junior Carin Sweeney had six kills and two aces while junior Courtney Wolf added six kills and three blocks for the Bears. Ashley Bullard led Coast Guard with 17 assists.
The Bears (7-8) also beat Salve Regina 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-16) with Gurr recording 11 kills, seven digs, six blocks and three aces. |

 Jessica Anderson had 30 digs in the 3-2 loss at MIT. CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(9/30/08)--Coast Guard battled back from a 2-0 deficit before falling to MIT 3-2 (25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 15-11) in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match. With the win, the Engineers improved to 11-8 on the year and 3-1 in conference play while the Bears dropped to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the NEWMAC.
MIT jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening game and then extended its advantage to 20-9. Coast Guard trimmed its deficit to eight (23-15), but kills by Barden Cleeland and Cecily Joujon-Roche closed out the set for the Engineers. |

WELLESLEY, MASS.--(9/23/08)--Wellesley volleyball got back on the winning track this evening with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-22) sweep of the United States Coast Guard Academy, snapping a five-match win streak for the Bears. The win lifts the Blue to 9-1 overall, 2-1 in NEWMAC play. Coast Guard drops to 5-7, 2-1 in the conference.
The Blue jumped out to an early lead in set one, capitalizing on strong serving from Madeleine Brumley to take an 8-0 lead. Coast Guard trimmed the lead to 10-5, but could get no closer as Wellesley cruised to a 25-14 win. Set two saw the Bears take an early 3-1 edge, but Wellesley fought back to take a 10-8 lead. The Blue used solid defense and transition offense to gradually pull away, taking the second set 25-17 for a 2-0 lead in the match. |

 Nicole Gurr had 45 kills leading the Bears to three wins and earning NEWMAC Player of the Week honors. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/22/08)--Senior Nicole Gurr was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Player of the Week as she led the Bears to three wins, two of them NEWMAC wins, extending their winning streak to five on the season.
Gurr led the Bears with 45 kills and eight aces to go with 41 digs and eight blocks.
Coast Guard opened conference play with a 3-0 win over WPI on Tuesday before beating another NEWMAC opponent Wheaton 3-0 on Saturday. The Bears closed out the week by beating Bridgewater State 3-0 at home on Saturday. |
