NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/21/10)--Sophomore Catherine Walker had a season-high 12 kills while classmate Lauren Bloch and freshman Kelsey DePorto added eight kills each leading Coast Guard to a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.

Coast Guard won by set scores of 25-11, 25-7, 25-11 to improve to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play while Mount Holyoke dropped its fourth straight to dip to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in NEWMAC action.

The Bears raced out to an 11-3 lead in the opening set and later sophomore Karen Matic served five straight points as the Bears took their largest lead at 21-6 enroute to a 25-11 win in the opening set.

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/18/10)-Senior Heather Lively had 18 kills leading Springfield to a 3-1 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.

The Pride won by set scores of 25-12, 24-26, 25-16 and 25-21 to improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the NEWMAC. Coast Guard, which had its five-game win streak snapped, drops to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Trailing 2-1, the Bears looked to force a fifth a deciding set as the fourth set was tied 17-17 before Springfield ran off four straight and never looked back to extend its win streak to four.

Volleyball - Bears Win NEWMAC Opener

Lauren Bloch led the Bears to their fifth straight win.

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/14/10)--Sophomore Lauren Bloch had 11 kills, 12 digs and five blocks leading Coast Guard to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-12) win over Wheaton in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams.

Coast Guard won its fifth straight match and 15th straight set to improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC while Wheaton, which has dropped five of its last six, drops to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Wheaton was winning the first set 13-10 before the Bears used a 10-3 run for a 20-16 lead and won the opener 25-20.

In set two, Coast Guard led 14-9 before scoring the final 11 points, ten of those served by sophomore Karen Matic for the 25-9 win.

Catherine Walker led a balanced Bears attack in the wins.

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/11/10)--Sophomore Catherine Walker had 13 kills and five aces while freshman Kelsey Deporto had 11 kills as Coast Guard swept a tri-match beat both Merchant Marine and Mt. St. Vincent 3-0 to run its win streak to four.

The Bears (6-2) beat Merchant Marine 25-7, 25-22, 25-15 in the opener before beating Mt. St. Vincent 25-6, 25-20, 25-6 in the final match of the day.

Merchant Marine (2-3) beat Mt. St. Vincent 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-10) in the second match of the afternoon.
