Women's Soccer - Kurek Named to All-Conference team

Katie Kurek earned All-conference honors for the first time in her career.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/11/08)--Coast Guard junior forward Katie Kurek was selected to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-conference second team in voting by the league’s 10 head coaches.

She is the first Coast Guard player since Hillary Allegretti in 2004 to earn All-conference honors.

Kurek led Coast Guard with 12 goals, one shy of the single-season school record, while also leading the team with 26 points.

Women's Soccer - Bears Drop Season Finale 2-1
HOLYOKE, MASS.--(10/28/08)--With a spot in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament at stake, Mount Holyoke scored twice in the first half and made it standup beating Coast Guard 2-1 in the regular season finale for both teams.

Mount Holyoke secures a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament for the first time since 2005 while Coast Guard misses the tournament for the fifth straight season and ends the season 5-11 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

The Lyons jumped out to a 1-0 edge just 4:22 into the contest, when sophomore Yuko Takahashi netted her team leading ninth tally of the fall. After intercepting a pass, the midfielder fired a shot from the right side of the box toward the lower left corner of the goal. Coast Guard freshman goalkeeper Mary Mills got her hands on the ball, but it eventually trickled over the goal line and into the net.

Women's Soccer - Babson Explodes Late to Beat Bears

BABSON, MASS.--(10/25/08)--The Babson College women’s soccer team erupted for four goals in the final 21 minutes to defeat the visiting United States Coast Guard Academy, 4-0, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Hartwell-Rogers field.

With the victory, the Beavers improved to 10-3-5 overall and 5-0-3 in league play while remaining in the hunt for the top seed in next week’s conference tournament. Coast Guard slipped to 5-10-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the NEWMAC with the loss.

Coast Guard can still qualify for the conference tournament if its beats Mount Holyoke on Tuesday in the regular season finale.

Women's Soccer - Bears Lose Final Home Game to Springfield

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/21/08)--Sophomore Brittany Collins scored a pair of goals while graduate student Nicole Hanewich had a goal and two assists leading Springfield to a 6-1 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game, the Bears final home game of the season.

Freshman Jen Jahoda scored her team leading seventh goal, on a header, just 2:21 into the match with Hanewich assisting for a 1-0 lead.

Collins scored her first goal, an unassisted goal, in the 38th minute as the Pride took a 2-0 lead to the half.
