 Katie Kurek scored the only goal in the loss for the Bears. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/13/09)--Sophomore Alisha Lussiez and freshman Emily Kuo had three goals each leading MIT to a 7-1 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.
Junior Lauren Henley gave MIT a lead just 1:32 into the match before Coast Guard tied it when sophomore Shannah Shelton assisted on a goal by senior Katie Kurek in the 28th minute.
It took MIT just 1:08 to regain the lead on Kuo’s first goal of the game. MIT led 2-1 at halftime. |

NORTHAMPTON, MASS.--(10/10/09)--Sophomore forward Ellie Theurer scored the game winning goal while senior midfielder Etta Grover-Silva scored two insurance goals as Smith earned another shutout of the season against conference rival Coast Guard. With the 3-0 victory, the Pioneers improved to 3-7-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NEWMAC while the Bears fell to 2-9-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the conference.
Coast Guard came out attacking early in the game as their leading scorer, senior Katie Kurek took a hard shot at goal within the first two minutes of play but was denied by Smith's sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Gregor. Showing that they too were in offensive attack mode, Smith's sophomore forward Jen Chang answered with a shot on goal off a corner kick but was blocked by a Coast Guard defender. |

WELLESLEY, MASS.--(10/6/09)--Wellesley College senior Catherine Caruso recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Blue soccer team to a 4-1 victory over NEWMAC-rival Coast Guard. The win marked the third-straight victory for the Blue, who improved their season mark to 4-4-2 (2-0-1 NEWMAC). Coast Guard falls to 2-8 (0-3 NEWMAC).
Wellesley took a 1-0 lead in the 17th-minute after a nice thru ball from Nikki Fermanis set up Caruso's first goal of the season. Wellesley padded the lead in the 36th minute when Chelsea-Ann Patry lauched a hooking shot around the Coast Guard keeper from 18 yards out, making it 2-0 in favor of the Blue. |

NORTON, MASS.--(10/3/09)--Freshman Cassey Muse scored twice, breaking a scoreless deadlock just before halftime to send the Wheaton College women's soccer team on its way to a 5-0 victory over the United States Coast Guard Academy during New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Homecoming Saturday in a rain-soaked Mirrione Stadium.
The Lyons, who are receiving national votes from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and are fourth in the region, blanked their fourth consecutive opponent while improving to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. The Bears fell to 2-7 and 0-2. |
