 James Toohey was one of three Coast Guard players named to the All-conference team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/11/08)--Coast Guard placed three players on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer All-conference team voted on by league's seven head coaches.
Senior midfielder David O'Brien was named to the first team for the second straight season. O'Brien had five goals and one assist.

 Senior David O'Brien and the Bears will host St. Joseph's (Me.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/10/08)--The Coast Guard Academy men’s soccer team has been selected as the No. 3 seed in the ECAC New England Division III Tournament and will play sixth-seeded St. Joseph’s (Maine) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a first round game.
The Bears (10-8-1), who lost seven games by one goal this season, five of them against teams that were selected for the NCAA Tournament, earn a trip to the ECAC Tournament for the fifth time in six years as the team also competed in the tournament in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007. Coast Guard advanced to the semifinals in both 2003 and 2004, but lost in the first round in each of the last two seasons.
St. Joseph’s (12-6-3) was the tournament runners up in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) after losing to top-seeded Norwich 2-1 in the championship game. The Monks are making the program’s first appearance in the ECAC Tournament. |

 Jacob Larsen's goal gave the Bears a 1-0 lead. BABSON PARK, MASS.--(11/8/08)--The Babson College men's soccer team scored two goals in a 41-second span late in regulation to erase a 1-0 deficit and defeat the fourth-seeded United States Coast Guard Academy, 2-1, in the semifinal round of the 2008 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Tournament at Babson's Hartwell Rogers on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Beavers (15-4-1), ranked second in New England, advanced to Sunday's championship game at 1 p.m., where they will face the winner of Saturday's second semifinal matchup between second-seeded MIT and sixth-seeded Wheaton. Meanwhile, Coast Guard (10-8-1) saw it's conference tournament run come to an end and the Bears will await word on a possible berth to the ECAC Tournament on Monday. |

 Tim Olah came up huge in the penalty kick round with back-to-back saves as the Bears advanced to the NEWMAC tournament semifinals. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/5/08)--Coast Guard junior goalkeeper Tim Olah made back-to-back stops and the Bears did not miss in the penalty kick round as fourth-seeded Coast Guard and fifth-seeded Springfield played to a 3-3 tie and Coast Guard advanced 4-1 on penalty kicks in the quarterfinal round of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament.
Springfield senior Scott Swanekamp had scored with eight seconds left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.
Coast Guard senior James Toohey opened the penalty kick round by converting as did Springfield senior Myles Tilton. In round two, senior David O’Brien beat junior keeper Kevin Leahy giving the Bears a 2-1 lead. Olah then stoned senior Brett Drake. |
