Men's Soccer - Bears Win; Clinch NEWMAC Tourney Spot

Chris Tarbell had seven saves and stopped a penalty kick as Coast Guard won to clinch a NEWMAC tournament berth.
WORCESTER, MASS.--(10/30/10)--Senior goalkeeper Chris Tarbell stopped a penalty kick enroute to posting his sixth shutout of the season as the Bears clinched a NEWMAC Tournament bid Saturday morning with a 2-0 victory over host WPI.

Coast Guard (7-8-1, 2-3-1 NEWMAC) will host Springfield in a NEWMAC quarterfinal on Wednesday night. The Bears earned the fourth seed and Springfield, the fifth seed, qualified for the five-team tournament when Babson rallied to defeat Clark 3-2 in double overtime later in the afternoon.

With the result, WPI sees its season come to an end with a 5-10-1 overall mark and a 0-5-1 record in NEWMAC play.

Men's Soccer - Spangler Goal Ends Losing Streak

Dan Spangler's goal in overtime gave the Bears a 1-0 win.
THROGGS NECK, N.Y.--(10/25/10)--Sophomore Dan Spangler's goal in the fourth minute of overtime ended a long scoreless drought and gave Coast Guard a 1-0 win over New York Maritime in a non-conference game.

The goal was the first of his career for Spangler and was Coast Guard's first goal since Oct. 1st, as the Bears had been shutout in five straight games and all of regulation tonight.

The Privateers’ record falls to 11-8 overall in defeat, while the Bears improve to 6-8-1 on the season.

Men's Soccer - Bears Fall to Eastern Conn.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/20/10)--Junior Matt Furman scored a pair of goals and assisted on the other leading Eastern Connecticut to a 3-0 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game between the two Connecticut schools.

Eastern Connecticut which scored all three goals in the first half improved to 10-3-2 overall and ran its unbeaten streak to four. Coast Guard was shutout for the fifth straight game and drops to 5-8-1 on the season.

Freshman Tom Vear blasted a shot off the right post and in just 6:29 into the match as Eastern Connecticut took a 1-0 lead. Furman and sophomore Cory Tobler assisted on the goal.

Men's Soccer - Bears Drop Fourth Straight
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/16/10)--Senior Joey DeRosa’s header in the 48th minute was the only goal of the game leading MIT to a 1-0 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

MIT ran its unbeaten streak to nine games and remained in first place in the NEWMAC with a 3-0-1 record while improving to 9-2-1 overall.

Coast Guard was shutout for the fourth straight game and dropped to 5-7-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.

Freshman Andrew Fijan had his first career assist on DeRosa’s first goal of the season, just 2:20 into the second half.
