Senior linebacker Brian Yurovich was honored by the NEFC for his performance in the win over Westfield State.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/29/08)--Coast Guard Academy senior linebacker Brian Yurovich has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Yurovich had 10 tackles, seven solo, one for loss, a pass breakup and a key interception early in the fourth quarter on the Coast Guard 13-yard line preventing Westfield State from taking the lead in a game that was tied 13-13 at the time.

Football - Shackleford FG Gives Bears Win at Westfield State

Steve Arguelles had the big play, a 36-yard reception on a screen pass, to key the game winning drive.
WESTFIELD, MASS.--(9/27/08)--Freshman Jacob Shackleford kicked a 32-yard field goal, his first collegiate field goal attempt, with 16 seconds remaining to lift Coast Guard Academy to a 16-13 victory over Westfield State in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division opener for both team.

Coast Guard (1-2, 1-0), the two-time defending NEFC Bogan Division champions, have a perfect 15-0 divisional record since joining the conference in 2006. Westfield is 2-2 and 0-1.

The game-winning drive began with 4:42 remaining after a Westfield drive (12 plays, 53 yards) stalled at the Coast Guard 32 on a fourth-down incomplete pass.

Game # 3 Preview - Bears Begin Defense of Bogan Division Championship

Cornerback Pat Bennett and the Coast Guard secondary will be tested this week against a Westfield State team that loves to throw the football.
COAST GUARD (0-2, 0-0) at WESTFIELD STATE (2-1, 0-0)

LAST YEAR: Sophomore Pat Bennett returned the second half kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown, classmate strong safety Keenan Prather returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown later in the third quarter as defending NEFC Bogan Division champion Coast Guard took a 35-0 lead and won its eighth straight Bogan Division game dating back to last season, beating Westfield State 42-14 in the division opener for both teams.

Football - Plymouth State Beats Bears 26-7
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/20/08)--Senior running back Jeff Mack had 124 yards and a touchdown while senior quarterback John DeMarco threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score leading Plymouth State to a 26-7 win over Coast Guard in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) cross division game.

Coast Guard loses its second straight regular season game for the first time since 2005 and the Bears begin the season 0-2 for the first time since 2001.
