THE SERIES: Coast Guard leads 9-1
LAST YEAR: Senior quarterback Niles Pierson had a career-high 127 yards rushing and two touchdowns while junior running back Steve Arguelles had a career-high 121 yards rushing and a score while finishing with 206 all-purpose yards as Coast Guard won its 16th straight NEFC Bogan Division game beating Mass. Maritime 30-6 on Homecoming Weekend.
Coast Guard, the two-time defending NEFC Bogan Division champions, rushed for a season-high 365 yards and three scores on 58 carries while freshman Jacob Shackleford was three-for-three on field goal attempts, converting from 37, 24 and 34 yards.
The Bears finished with a season-high 458 yards of total offense while holding the Buccaneers to 204 total yards, 95 passing. |

(photo by Paul Duddy) NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/26/09)--Junior quarterback Jesse Karr threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to freshman tight end Casey Paris with 32.9 seconds left as Coast Guard won in miraculous fashion stunning Westfield State 8-5 in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division opener for both teams.

The Bears (1-2, 1-0) avoid an 0-3 start for the first time since 1983 and remain a perfect 7-0 vs. Westfield State all-time. The Owls drop to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in division play.
Coast Guard had moved the ball all day, but the Bears were being shutout 5-0 when the offense got one last chance with 1:34 left on its own 18 yard line. On third-and-two, Karr was looking for Paris, the ball however was tipped by Paris and luckily for Coast Guard, into the hands of freshman wide receiver Eric Gerken, who raced 52 yards to the Westfield 14 yard line. |

THE SERIES: Coast Guard leads 6-0
LAST YEAR: Freshman Jacob Shackleford kicked a 32-yard field goal, his first collegiate field goal attempt, with 16 seconds remaining to lift Coast Guard Academy to a 16-13 victory over Westfield State in the NEFC Bogan Division opener for both teams.
Coast Guard (1-2, 1-0), the two-time defending NEFC Bogan Division champions, won their 15 straight division game since joining the conference in 2006. Westfield was 2-2 and 0-1.
The game-winning drive began with 4:42 remaining after a Westfield drive stalled at the Bears 32 on a incomplete pass.
The big play on Coast Guard’s final drive came on 2nd and 20 from its own 42 when Steve Arguelles picked up 36 yards on a beautifully executed screen pass. Three plays later, Shackleford delivered his big boot.

 Steve Arguelles had 122 total yards and a team-high five receptions in the loss. PLYMOUTH, N.H.--(9/19/09)--Junior quarterback J.J. Brooks accounted for four touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter as Plymouth State University pulled out a 28-17 victory over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in non-conference football action at Currier Field.
Brooks rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns while completing 5-of-10 passes for 77 yards and two scores. He led PSU to a come-from-behind victory with a nine-yard TD pass to junior John Creamer with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter and added an insurance score with a three-yard TD plunge with 4:33 remaining. |
