 Niles Pierson tied a school-record with four touchdown passes NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/4/06)--Sophomore quarterback Niles Pierson, making his second career start, tied a school record as he threw four touchdown passes and also ran for one, the first five touchdowns of his career leading Coast Guard to its eighth straight win, a 42-21 win over Framingham State in a New England Football Conference Bogan Division game, the regular season finale for both teams.
The Coast Guard defense forced seven turnovers including a season-high six interceptions, three by freshman Steve Arguelles, who tied the Coast Guard single-season school record with 11 interceptions. The record was shared by Ron Davies (1989) and Bill Bryant (1973). Arguelles’ 11 interceptions this season are tops in the nation.
Coast Guard (8-1, 7-0), who won eight straight regular season games for the first time since 1963, finishes Bogan Division play a perfect 7-0 in their first season in the NEFC. The Bears will host Boyd Division champion and three-time defending NEFC champion Curry on Saturday at noon in the NEFC Championship Game. |

THE SERIES: This is the first meeting between the two schools.
LAST WEEK: Junior David Lieberman kicked an 18-yard field goal in the second quarter and the Coast Guard defense did the rest as Coast Guard beat Maine Maritime 3-0 in the rainy, windy conditions to wrap up the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division championship. Senior co-captain Tim Leber and sophomore Jack Gill each had 15 tackles leading the Bears defense.
Framingham State snapped a 12-game losing streak dating back to last season with a 14-6 win at Mass. Maritime. Ironically the last win for Framingham State was a 27-20 win over Mass. Maritime last season. Bryce Guilbeault was 12 of 20 for 149 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Both teams had 199 total offensive yards.
NEFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SET: Bogan Division champion Coast Guard will host Boyd Division Curry in the NEFC Championship Game on Nov. 11th at noon. Curry is the three-time defending NEFC Champion. The Colonels beat Fitchburg State in the last two NEFC Championship games 17-14 in double OT last season and 17-7 in 2004. Curry beat Westfield State 36-0 in 2003. |

 Tim Leber was named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/30/06)--Coast Guard Academy senior co-captain Tim Leber was named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bears 3-0 win at Maine Maritime which clinched the NEFC Bogan Division championship.
The win was the seventh straight for Coast Guard, which is 7-1 overall and 6-0 in the division.
Leber, an outside linebacker, had a game-high 15 tackles, seven solo and two sacks including a sack on the final series with under a minute to play to preserve the shutout victory. It was Coast Guard’s second shutout of the season. |

 Junior David Lieberman's field goal were the only points of the game CASTINE, MAINE—(10/28/06)—Junior David Lieberman kicked an 18-yard field goal and the Coast Guard defense did the rest in the rainy, windy conditions as the Bears won their seventh straight and captured the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division Championship with a 3-0 win over Maine Maritime.
Coast Guard improves to 7-1 overall and remains a perfect 6-0 in NEFC Bogan Division play. Maine Maritime had its four-game win streak snapped and they drop to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the division.
Coast Guard will host Boyd Division Champion Curry on Nov. 11th in the NEFC Championship Game at noon. The winner will get the automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
