WORCESTER, MASS.--(10/23/10)--Marcus Price rushed for 203 yards and a pair of scores while quarterback Tony Tokarz had 293 yards of total offense leading Worcester State to a 31-7 win over Coast Guard in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division game.
The Lancers, who improve to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the Bogan Division, beat the Bears for the first time in the series between the teams as Coast Guard had won the first five meetings.
Coast Guard, which dropped its third straight is now 2-5 overall and 1-4 in division play. The Bears allowed a season-high 541 yards while gaining just 218 total yards in the loss. Coast Guard which trailed 10-0 at halftime was held to just 70 yards of total offense in the second half. |

After the teams traded their opening possessions, Coast Guard started on their own 15 and manufactured a sophomore Jacob Shackleford 35-yard field goal with 2:33 left in the first quarter. |

 Jacob Shackleford kicked his school-record 24th career field goal in the loss. WESTFIELD, MASS.--(10/16/10)--Senior Evan Berneche rushed 37 times for 236 yards and a touchdown in his collegiate debut at running back to lead Westfield State University to a 26-15 victory over Coast Guard in New England Football Bogan Division action.
With Berneche, junior strong safety Ryan O’Connell and sophomore defensive end Chris Walker leading the charge, Westfield defeated Coast Guard for the first time in the eight-game series. The Owls are now 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the NEFC Bogan Division; Coast Guard is 2-4 and 1-3.
The versatile 5-10, 195-pound Berneche – Westfield’s leading receiver this season – displayed power inside and speed outside in his spectacular start in the backfield. Prior to the game his only collegiate rush was on a successful two-point conversion two weeks ago. |

LAST YEAR: Junior quarterback Jesse Karr threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to freshman tight end Casey Paris with 32.9 seconds left as Coast Guard won in miraculous fashion stunning Westfield State 8-5 in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division opener for both teams.
The Bears (1-2, 1-0) avoided an 0-3 start for the first time since 1983 and remain a perfect 7-0 vs. Westfield State all-time.
Coast Guard had moved the ball all day, but the Bears were being shutout 5-0 when the offense got one last chance with 1:34 left on its own 18 yard line. On third-and-two, Karr was looking for Paris, the ball however was tipped by Paris and luckily for Coast Guard, into the hands of freshman wide receiver Eric Gerken, who raced 52 yards to the Westfield 14 yard line. |
