THE SERIES: Coast Guard leads 7-1.

LAST MEETING: Christian George combined for over 300 yards of total offense for the second straight week and freshman free safety Steve Arguelles had a career-high three interceptions including a 37-yard return for a touchdown as Coast Guard scored 35 points or more for the third straight week for the first time in the 83-year history of the football program and won its third straight beating Massachusetts Maritime 41-0 on Parent’s Weekend.

George was 16 of 32 for a career-high 235 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 72 yards on 13 carries.

Josh Williams (7 carries, 47 yards, 2 TD) opened the scoring on a one-yard run with 3:53 left in the first quarter, capping an eight-play, 59 yard drive.

Junior Brian Michka had a big game to earn NEFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/24/07)--Coast Guard Academy junior linebacker Brian Michka has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bears 42-14 win over Westfield State on Saturday.

Michka led Coast Guard with 13 tackles, eight solo, two for loss, one sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup as Coast Guard remained perfect in NEFC Bogan Division play winning its eighth straight division game dating back to last season.

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/22/07)--Sophomore Pat Bennett returned the second half kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown, classmate strong safety Keenan Prather returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown later in the third quarter as defending New England Football Conference Bogan Division champion Coast Guard took a 35-0 lead and won its eighth straight NEFC Bogan Division game dating back to last season, beating Westfield State 42-14 in the division opener for both teams.

Coast Guard (2-1, 1-0) scored touchdowns on its first two possessions as senior quarterback Christian George (12 carries, 41 yards/9 of 14, 93 yards, 1 INT) capped a nine play, 43-yard drive with a one-yard run with 9:08 left in the first quarter and then following a punt, senior Lance Lynch (16 carries, 71 yards) scored on a three-yard run capping a eight play, 51-yard drive with 4:15 left in the opening quarter and senior David Lieberman added the extra point on both occasions as the Bears led 14-0.

THE SERIES: Coast Guard leads 4-0.

LAST MEETING: Christian George and Josh Williams accounted for 443 yards in total offense and all five touchdowns to power Coast Guard to a 35-21 victory over Westfield State. It was the NEFC Bogan Division opener for both teams.

Both George and Williams rushed for career highs as Coast Guard held off a late comeback attempt. George carried the ball 12 times for 188 yards and a touchdown; he also completed nine of 15 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Williams scored three touchdowns, rushing for 142 yards on 15 carries.
