 Tyler Hames had five touchdowns to lead the Bears past Mass. Maritime. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/24/11)--Sophomore Tyler Hames rushed for 122 yards and accounted for five touchdowns as Coast Guard celebrated the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1961 by scoring 61 points in a 61-30 Homecoming win over Mass. Maritime in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division opener for both teams.
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season for Coast Guard which is now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Bogan Division while Mass. Maritime suffered its first loss of the season dropping to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the division.
Mass. Maritime marched down the field on the opening possession of the game and junior Barry Reopell’s two-yard run gave the Buccaneers a 6-0 lead with 9:28 left in the first quarter. |

 Eric Gerken caught a single-game school record 15 passes in the loss. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/17/11)--Sophomore Phil Bigelow carried 21 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns while senior quarterback Anthony Carnevale came off the bench and threw three touchdown passes leading Curry to a 44-21 win over Coast Guard in a non-divisional game between the two New England Football Conference (NEFC) schools.
Coast Guard junior wide receiver Eric Gerken set a single-game school record with 15 receptions in the loss. The old record was 12 held by three players, most recently Rob Bixler vs. Plymouth State in 2002. Gerken finished with a career-high 149 receiving yards in the game.
Bigelow scored the only touchdown of the first quarter on a 17-yard run with 4:32 left in the opening quarter. Freshman Chris Frissore added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. |

LAST YEAR: Sophomore wide receiver Robert Bambini caught three touchdown passes, leading Curry to a 35-0 victory over visiting Coast Guard in a non-divisional match-up of New England Football Conference (NEFC) rivals.
The Colonels (2-1) also posted their second shutout in a row, having blanked Fitchburg State 28-0 a week earlier. The Bears fell to 1-1 on the season.
Both teams’ offenses were held in check in a scoreless first quarter. In the second quarter, the Colonels tallied the first of 35 unanswered points when sophomore Mark Gilson tossed a 24-yard scoring pass to Bambini with 14:42 on the clock. Then with just 18 seconds remaining in the half, Curry stretched its advantage to 14-0 courtesy of a one-yard scoring rush by senior Dennis Void. |
