Women's Cross Country - Bears Place 16th at New England Championships

Sarah Blatt was the top Coast Guard finisher at the New England Championships.
CUMBERLAND, MAINE--(11/14/09)--Paced by freshman Sarah Blatt and senior co-captain Tessa Knott, the Coast Guard Academy women's cross country team finished 16th in a field of 47 teams at the Division III New England Regional Championships. The meet was hosted by the University of Southern Maine at Twin Brooks Golf Course in Cumberland, Maine.

As they've done throughout the season, the Bears once again placed their top 5 runners in tight packs. Blatt (23:50) and Knott (24:18) held a steady pace through the 6000-meter course of fields, challenging hills, dirt trails through the woods, and crossing the finish in 67th and 92nd place respectively. Sophomore Katie Schumacher was close behind covering the course 24:30 and finishing 100th overall.

Women's Cross Country - Knott Leads Bears to 5th Place Finish

Tessa Knott earned All-ECAC Honors for the first time in her career.
WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS.--(11/07/09)--The Coast Guard Academy Bears competed among 46 teams from eight states and placed fifth at the 2009 ECAC Championship, which included a field of 300+ runners traversing the 6K course located at Mt. Greylock High School.

Senior co-captain Tessa Knott earned All-ECAC honors for the first time in her career as she led the Bears by finishing in 15th place with a time of 24 minutes, 12 seconds over the 6K course. Also finishing in the top 25 was freshman Sarah Blatt placing 22nd with a time of 24:45.

Junior Colin Fall kept the top five Coast Guard runners in a tight pack, who finished 44th with a time of 25:36. Senior co-captain Bryce VanCleef (25:38) and freshman Cat Truesdell (25:41) followed closely behind finishing in 47th and 49th to total five Coast Guard runners in the top 50.

Women's Cross Country - Bears Place Trio on All-Academic Team

Bryce VanCleef was one of three members of the women's team to earn All-Academic honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/4/09)--Coast Guard placed eight student-athletes on the 2009 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic cross country teams.

Senior Adam Stanek, junior Karl Alejandre and sophomores Trevor Auth, Devin Quinn and Mark Zanowicz were honored from the men’s team while senior Bryce VanCleef, junior Meghan Zehringer and sophomore Katie Schumacher were named from the women’s team

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2009 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at his or her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Tessa Knott was the top Coast Guard finisher as she placed 16th overall.
BOSTON, MASS.--Led by captain Tessa Knott, the Bears secured a 4th place finish at the 2009 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Championships (NEWMAC) at Franklin Park.

MIT took the championship scoring 18 points, Wellesley followed as the runner-up with 75 and Springfield was 3rd scoring 113. Coast Guard placed 4th with 117 points followed by Smith (133), WPI (163), Babson (201), Wheaton (205), then Mount Holyoke (248).

Knott crossed the finish line with a time of 20:21 placing 16th overall in a field of 122 competitors. Teammate Sarah Blatt covered the 5K course in 20:28 finishing 17th. Other top finishers for Coast Guard include Colin Fall (21:10), Katie Schumacher (21:17), and Caroline “Cat” Truesdell (21:18).
