 Mike Persun as one of six runners from the men's team named to the NEWMAC All-Academic team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/7/08)--Coast Guard placed eight student-athletes on the 2008 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic cross country teams.
The Bears placed six men on the team and two women.
Seniors Mike Persun (Marine and Enviromental Sciences), Mike Haas (Mechanical Engineering) and Kyle Richter (Civil Engineering), juniors Adam Stanek (Management) and Matt Eyler (Electrical Engineering) along with sophomore Karl Alejandre (Government) were named from the men’s team. |

 Steve Eldridge was named NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/6/08)--Coast Guard Academy head coach Steve Eldridge has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s cross country Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to second place finish at the NEWMAC Championship. Coast Guard also won the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award.
Eldridge, in his 40th season as the Bears head coach, has led his team to second place finish at all 11 NEWMAC Championships, each time placing second to MIT. |

 Mike Haas was the top Coast Guard finisher as he placed second overall. BOSTON, MASS.--(11/1/08)--For the 11th straight season, Coast Guard finished second to MIT at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships held at Franklin Park.
MIT won the meet with 28 points while the Bears finished with 41 points.
The Bears had four runners earn All-conference honors led by seniors Mike Haas (25:58.53) and Mike Persun (25:30.16), who finished second and third overall respectively. Persun earned All-conference honors for the fourth straight season while Haas earned All-conference honors for the first time in his career.
Senior Zach Henninghausen (26:08.37) was eighth and sophomore Andrew Price (26:22) was 14th to also earn All-conference honors. It was the second All-conference honor for Henninghausen and the first for Price. |

 Senior Mike Haas placed third overall. GETTYSBURG, PA.--(10/18/08)--Coast Guard placed three runners in the top 11 as the Bears placed third of the 19 teams at the Gettysburg Invitational.
Senior Mike Haas was the top Coast Guard finisher as he placed third with a time of 25:49.42.
Also for the Bears, seniors Zach Henninghausen (26:09.69) and Mike Persun (26:11.78) were 10th and 11th respectively. |
