Men's Cross Country - Bears Place 12th at NE Championships

Mike Haas placed 21st to lead the Bears to a 12th place finish at the New England Championships.
WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS.--(11/15/08)--Senior Mike Haas was the top Coast Guard finisher as he placed 21st overall with a time of 26:52.3 as the Bears placed 12th of the 49 teams at the Division III New England Championships.

Freshman Kevin O'Brien was the second Coast Guard finisher, placing 44th with a time of 27:21.2. Senior Zach Henninghausen was 55th (27:29.2) while classmate Mike Persun placed 62nd (27:35.5).

Pat Fernandez was one of the top Coast Guard finishers as the Bears placed 12th overall.
BRISTOL, R.I.--(11/8/08)--Coast Guard placed 12th of the 48 teams at the ECAC Division III New England Championship at Colt State Park.

The Bears, who rested their top runners, were led by Matt Eyler (27:58), who placed 47th, Pat Fernandez (28:10), who was 59th and Kyle Richter (28:20), who finished 65th overall.

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/7/08)--Coast Guard placed eight student-athletes on the 2008 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic cross country teams.

The Bears placed six men on the team and two women.

Seniors Mike Persun (Marine and Enviromental Sciences), Mike Haas (Mechanical Engineering) and Kyle Richter (Civil Engineering), juniors Adam Stanek (Management) and Matt Eyler (Electrical Engineering) along with sophomore Karl Alejandre (Government) were named from the men’s team.

Men's Cross Country - Eldridge Named Coach of Year; Bears Win Sportsmanship Award

Steve Eldridge was named NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/6/08)--Coast Guard Academy head coach Steve Eldridge has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s cross country Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to second place finish at the NEWMAC Championship. Coast Guard also won the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award.

Eldridge, in his 40th season as the Bears head coach, has led his team to second place finish at all 11 NEWMAC Championships, each time placing second to MIT.
