Lucas Taylor earned All-New England honors as a freshman last season.
Coast Guard welcomes one of its best freshmen classes in years to go with a pair of returning All-New England wrestlers in sophomores Josh Gerry and classmate Lucas Taylor at 165 pounds, both placed fourth in New England last season. Gerry wrestled at 133 pounds last season and will move up to 141 pounds this year.

The Bears top three returners will be sophomore Joe Kidwell, who was 18-10 last year, at 125 pounds. Gerry, who was 19-8, is back at 133 while Taylor returns at 165 after posting a 16-14 record last season.

Although the other Bears lack college experience, there is a plethora of top high school talent preparing to earn varsity positions.

Nate Giorgio (125) and his brother Mike (149) are part of a talented freshmen class that features 14 wrestlers while Joe Kidwell's brother Steven also joins the team as the Bears look to rebound from a sub-par season in which the team won just one dual meet.

Men's Swimming - 2011-12 Season Preview

NCAA qualifier Brian McGuiness is one of three captains for the 2011-12 season.
After another solid season in 2011 with a 9-1 dual meet record and second place finish at the NEWMAC Championship, the Bears are poised for improvement.

The team should improve in many areas at the conference meet with some returning and developing athletes, as well the addition of an elite freshman class. After graduating the largest men’s class in a generation, nine, the men will be tasked with filling in the large shoes left by the class of 2011.

Returning to lead the men are senior captains and NCAA qualifiers Nicholas Cosenza and Brian McGuiness as well as NEWMAC finalist in diving Jeff Mistrick. These three leaders will look to challenge the men to peak at the NEWMAC Championship through the example they set as hard workers and dedicated team members.

Heidi Gayman is the defending NEWMAC champion in the 200 freestyle.
After an extremely successful year the Bears will look to build off of that campaign. While the dual meet record was not spectacular, they over-performed at the NEWMAC conference meet in 2011, with a meet that rewrote the record board with 13 new school records. This season the returning athletes will serve as the core of a team that is poised to move forward.

Leading the women are senior captains, Christa Funk, NEWMAC champion Heidi Gayman and Jordan Mestemaker. Joining them in the senior class is Sarah Jane Otey a two-time NCAA qualifier, who has been named a first boat All-America rower in the spring of 2011. Jennilee Williams rounds out the senior class.

The Bears have potential for relays to swim into the qualifying mix for NCAA competition with a rapidly improving roster and some new additions. After having graduated the largest women’s class in program history, the strength of the team will come from the core of athletes making dramatic improvement. The strength of the rising sophomores will come to the forefront after completing the rigorous freshman year.
