 Tyler Vieira pitched well in relief and is still in the game which was suspended after ten innings. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/22/10)--Fifth-seeded Coast Guard rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie sixth-seeded MIT, following a one hour and ten minute rain and lightning delay, to tie the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament elimination game at 6-6 and later in the inning had two runners tagged out at third base on the same play and this wild game was suspended after ten innings due to darkness with the score tied 6-6.
The game will be completed tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Coast Guard Academy.
MIT led 5-1 after six innings. The Engineers scored twice in the second on an RBI double by junior Dan Hyatt and an RBI groundout by sophomore A.J. Hansborough for a 2-0 lead.
Coast Guard got on the board in the third on an RBI single by freshman Nolan Gallagher, which scored classmate Riley Beecher, who led off the inning with a single. |

 Hayley Feindel was outstanding as she threw her third no-hitter of the season in the win over Wellesley. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/21/10)--Sophomore Hayley Feindel fired her third no-hitter of the season and fourth of her career and senior Courtney Wolf and freshman Stacia Sarwinski had back-to-back two-run doubles to highlight a four run first inning as top-seeded Coast Guard beat fourth-seeded Wellesley 8-0, in five innings, on the opening day of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) double elimination tournament.
Feindel was dominating as she walked the leadoff batter and then retired the next 15 batters, nine by strikeout to improve to 25-7 on the season. She leads the nation in wins, strikeouts (299) and shutouts (11).
Coast Guard freshman Megan Cook led off the second with a single and scored on an RBI single by junior Becky Miller. Junior Amanda Frederick followed with a double and then Miller and Frederick each scored on a wild pitches as the Bears took a 7-0 lead after just two innings.
Freshman Mara Blesoff appeared to break up Feindel’s no-hit bid leading off the fifth, but Sarwinski threw out Blesoff at first base after her liner got through the infield into right field.
Cook ended the game with a deep fly ball over the centerfielder’s head for an RBI single which scored Wolf, who had walked. |

 Cameron Carroll hit .727 last week to earn NEWMAC Player of the Week honors. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/19/10)--Coast Guard Academy freshman catcher Cameron Carroll hit .727 last week to earn New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week honors.
Carroll and the Bears needed to sweep a doubleheader from Springfield on Saturday to qualify for the NEWMAC tournament for the first time since 2007.
Coast Guard won the opener 4-1 and then in game two Carroll was 5 for 5 with three RBI’s and two runs scored and classmate Tyler Babkiewich hit a walk off two-run homer for a 13-12 win and a spot in the six-team field. |

 Amanda Frederick hit .667 with five homers and 12 RBI's last week to earn NEWMAC Player of the Week honors for the second straight week. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/19/10)--Coast Guard won its second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season championship and swept the weekly honors as junior catcher Amanda Frederick was named Player of the Week and sophomore Hayley Feindel earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Frederick had a huge week and earned Player of the Week honors for the second straight week. She hit .667 (14 for 21) with three doubles, five homers and 12 RBI’s and 12 runs scored. Frederick had a slugging percentage of 1.524 and had 60 putouts without making an error.
Feindel got all six decisions during the week and was 5-1 with a 0.93 ERA with one walk and 54 strikeouts. She threw nine perfect innings vs. MIT including a six-inning perfect game. She threw a one-hit shutout vs. Mitchell and beat Springfield 4-1 on Sunday as she struck out 13 to clinch the top-seed. Feindel allowed 16 hits in 30 innings and five runs, four earned. |
