 Margaret Owens won a pair of events to lead the Bears. KINGS POINT, N.Y.--(1/23/10)--Freshman Margaret Owens and senior Amy Olson each won two events leading Coast Guard to a 154-89 win over rival Merchant Marine.
Owens captured the 200 freestyle (2:05.36) and the 200 backstroke (2:23.40) while Olson won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.50)and the 200 breaststroke (2:35.68).
Also for the Bears, senior Jessica Conway won the 1,000 freestyle (11:42.30), sophomore Sam Sworden won the 100 backstroke (1:04.29), freshman Elizabeth Kenis won the 200 butterfly (2:22.62), sophomore Heidi Gayman won the 50 freestyle (25.75) and junior Kim Shadwick won the 100 freestyle (54.82). |

 Matt Leisy was one of three Bears to win all three matches at the New England Dual Championships. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(1/24/10)—Coast Guard, seeded 13th in the tournament, picked up its first win of the season at the New England Wresting Association’s Dual Meet Championship hosted by Springfield College. The Bears went 1-2 on the day and placed 13th overall.
Andy Snyder (157), Matt Leisy (165) and Will Stark (174) all went unbeaten winning all three matches in the tournament for the Bears.
The Bears won their final match of the afternoon, beating 14th-seeded WPI 49-6 for the first dual meet win of the season after losing the first eight matches of the season. |

 Carl Stokes took third in the shot put as the Bears placed third. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(1/23/10)--Sophomore Bret Morris won the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.83 while junior John Jaskot took first in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 3.25 inches qualifying him for the Division III New England Championships as the Bears placed third at the Springfield Invitational.
Host Springfield won the meet with 129 points, Bowdoin was second with 109 points while Coast Guard finished with 94.5 points.
Senior Carl Stokes took 3rd in the shot put with a toss of 45 feet, 10 inches and the 4x800 relay team of Mike Mrkvicka, Nate Crum, Andrew Price and Chris Marquis also finished second with a time of 8:18.27.

 Alaina Kiskaddon qualified for the D III New England Championships in the 600 meters. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(1/23/10)--Alaina Kiskaddon took 2nd place in the 600 meters with a time of 1:43.49 which qualifies her for the Division III New England Championships as the Bears placed sixth at the Springfield Invitational.
Sarah Blatt also qualified for Division III New England Championships by finishing 2nd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:28.34.
The 4x800 meter relay also earned a 2nd place finish with a time of 10:27.89 run by Tessa Knott, Colin Fall, Kiskaddon, and Blatt. |
