 Amanda Frederick had a huge week and was named NEWMAC Player of the Week. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/14/08)--Coast Guard Academy freshman catcher Amanda Frederick was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week.
Frederick had a great week as Coast Guard went 3-4 during the week. She hit .417 (10-24) with three doubles, one triple, four homers and 12 RBI's. She had an impressive slugging percentage of 1.125 for the week with 27 bases in 24 at bats. She was 3 for 3 with two homers, three runs scored and three RBI's as Coast Guard beat Babson 7-4 in game one to knock the Beavers out of first place on Saturday. |
LOWELL, MASS.-(4/12/08)--In fast conditions on the Merrimack River, the US Coast Guard Academy women's varsity eight (ranked #3 in the CRCA/NCAA Division III weekly national polls) defeated #11 Colby College. The Bears varsity eight lead wire-to-wire and finished just over 17 seconds ahead of Colby in a time of 5:48.99. The top eight moved well off of the line and continued to build it's lead throughout the course of the race.
The CGA Women's Crew Varsity 4+ A entry, comprised of rowers from the Bear's second varsity eight lead off the day of racing with a solid win over traditional fours schools including Franklin Pierce, UMass-Lowell, Massachusetts Maritime Academy as well as a CGA B entry in a time of 7:01.56, 8 seconds ahead of the field. |

LOWELL, MASS.--(4/12/08)--The US Coast Guard Academy Men's Crew came away with solid wins on Saturday racing Colby College on the fast Merrimack River, in Lowell, Massachusetts.
The CGA Men's Crew Varsity 4+, lead off the day of racing with a good performance, but came in second to Colby while well ahead of the other traditional fours schools including Franklin Pierce and UMass-Lowell. The Colby four, consisting of four athletes from their varsity eight, looked extremely smooth and controlled the race throughout, winning in a time of 6:04.43, nine seconds ahead of the Bears. |

 Amanda Frederick hit a pair of home runs and drove in three runs in the game one win. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/12/08)--Freshman Amanda Frederick was 3 for 3 with a pair of home runs, three RBI’s and three runs scored as Coast Guard beat Babson 7-4 in game one to knock the Beavers out of a first place tie in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Babson, which trailed 7-4 in the sixth inning of game two, scored seven runs in each the sixth and seventh inning for an 18-9 win to salvage the split.
In the opener, Coast Guard scored twice in the first on a two-run double by Courtney Wolf and the Bears added one more in the third on an RBI single by Becky Miller scoring Annette Boston, who led off the inning with a double.
In the fourth, Boston reached on an error scoring Laura Hutchinson before Frederick blasted a two-run homer to right center field for a 6-0 lead chasing Babson starter Jess Byrn. |
