Men's Indoor Track - Bears Win Own Invitational

Tieran Bonner won both the 55 and 200 metes to lead the Bears to victory.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/29/11)--Sophomore Tieran Bonner won both the 55 and 200 meters as Coast Guard won 13 events to capture its own Invitational.

Coast Guard won the four-team Invitational with 103 points. Westfield State was second with 73.5, Trinity was third with 45 points while Eastern Connecticut finsihed with 28.5 points.

Bonner won the 55 meters in 6.74 seconds and the 200 meters with a time of 23.58.

The Bears had nine other winners in individual events. Junior Trevor Siperek won the mile (4:33.49), senior Kyle Coleman won the 600 meters (1:25.73), junior Myles McCarthy captured the 3,000 meters in 9:13.71, freshman Adam Scalesse won the 55 meter hurdles (8.03).

Men's Basketball - MIT Beats Bears in Battle for Second

Devonte Weems led the Bears with 18 points and five rebounds.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(1/27/11)--Sophomore Mitchell Kates had 17 of his game-high 27 points in the second half while classmate Will Tashman had 18 of his game-high 26 points in the first half leading MIT to an 85-66 win over Coast Guard in the battle for second place in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

MIT and Coast Guard both entered the evening tied for second place with 3-2 conference records. The Engineers improve to 14-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play while the Bears drop to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Jamie Karraker was five for six from 3-point range and finished with 17 points for the Engineers who shot 60 percent from the field (30-50) while making nine of 15 from behind the arc. The Bears also shot well as they finished 23-47 from the floor (48.9 percent).

Men's Basketball - James Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

Jevon James averaged a double-double and earned NEWMAC Player of the Week honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/24/11)--Coast Guard senior Jevon James has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

James had a huge week as he registered a pair of double-doubles as Coast Guard beat Wheaton and lost to rival Conn. College in overtime this week.

Jevon averaged 18 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks in the two games as he was 13 of 28 from the floor while making 10 of 15 from the free throw line. He had career-highs with 25 points and six blocks to go with a season-high 15 rebounds in the win over Wheaton.

Wrestling - Snyder Has Perfect Day; Bears Win First of Season

Andy Snyder won all four matches including a key pin in the win over Roger Williams.
BRIDGEWATER, MASS.--(1/23/11)--Senior Andy Snyder won all four of his matches, including a key pin in the opening match of the day as Coast Guard recorded its first win of the season and placed eighth at the 14-team “Headlock for Hunger” New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Tournament.

Freshmen Lucas Taylor and Josh Gerry along with sophomore Joe Kidwell all won three of four matches in the tournament for the Bears.

The Bears won their first match of the day before dropping the final three of the tournament. Coast Guard is now 1-11 in dual meets this season.

Snyder and Taylor both recorded pins in less than one minute as Coast Guard picked up their first win of the season with a 23-21 win over Roger Williams in the opening match of the tournament. The Hawks had beaten the Bears 29-15 in the opening dual meet of the season on Dec. 8th.
