KISSIMMEE, FLA.--(3/6/11)--Junior All-American Hayley Feindel and freshman Alex Rennie combined for a no-hitter after Feindel fired a one-hit shutout in the opener as Coast Guard, ranked 16th nationally, opened the season with a pair of wins at the Rebel Games.

In the opener, Feindel fired a one-hitter and struck out 14 to pick up the win in a 2-0 win over Mount Union.

Freshman Devin Fellman’s RBI ground out in the third which scored junior Maddie Buchert was all the Bears would need.

Baseball - Beecher, Sherman Lead Bears to Season Opening Win

Riley Beecher pitched a complete game as the Bears won the season opener.
FORT MYERS, FLA.--(3/5/11)--Sophomore Riley Beecher pitched a complete game scattering five hits and allowing a pair of earned runs as Coast Guard beat Thiel 5-3 in the season opener for both teams at the Gene Cusic Classic.

Beecher, who got even stronger in the later innings, retired the final 11 hitters of the game in order. He allowed just four singles and a double and did not walk a batter while striking out three to give the Bears a season opening win for the first time since 2007.

Senior Graham Sherman’s two out, two-run double broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth and was the difference. Sherman also had an RBI single in the fourth which broke a 2-2 tie.

Men's Basketball - Sowers, James Honored by NEWMAC

Kevin Sowers became just the second Coast Guard player to earn NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/1/11)--Coast Guard Academy freshman Kevin Sowers was named New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rookie of the Year, senior Jevon James was named to the All-conference second team and the Bears won the Sportsmanship Award for the second straight season in voting by the leagues seven head coaches.

Sowers becomes just the second Coast Guard player to win NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors. Jeff Prebeck won the award during the 2004-’05 season. Sowers finished the season with 308 points the most for a freshman since Prebeck scored 385 points in the 2004-’05 season.

This season, Sowers led the Bears and all NEWMAC freshman in scoring with 13.4 points per game, assists (74), steals (40) and free throws (160). His 74 assists in a season are the most for a Coast Guard freshman since his brother Al had 97 in the 2004-’05 season.

Men's Swimming - Bears Place 2nd at NEWMAC Championships

Dan Alley was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay which placed second.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(2/27/11)--Coast Guard finished second for the third straight season at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship hosted by MIT.

Two-time defending champion MIT easily won with 1,153 points while Coast Guard took second with 822 points, well ahead of third place Springfield's 540 points.

The Bears 200 freestyle relay team of Brian McGuiness, Johnson Knox, Dan Alley and Dan Beshoar posted a winning time of 1:23.90 for Coast Guard’s only first place finish.
