NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/19/11)--Junior All-American Hayley Feindel, the reigning Division III National Player of the Week, allowed just four hits and no earned runs while striking out 26 as Coast Guard, ranked 12th nationally, remained unbeaten pushing its winning streak to a dozen with a sweep of Castleton State 3-2 and 10-0 in the northern and home opener for the Bears.
In the opener, Coast Guard took a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by sophomore Megan Cook before adding a run on an error. The Bears added one more in the fifth on an RBI single by junior Maddie Buchert.
Castleton State scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth as senior Sarah Flore’s two-run single made the score 3-2. |

 Lukas Laplante had the game-winning hit in the opener for the Bears. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/19/11)--Senior Graham Sherman’s RBI single in the seventh tied the game before freshman Lukas Laplante’s RBI single gave Coast Guard a 4-3 come-from-behind win in eight innings over Clark in the opener before senior Scott Hollingsworth’s RBI double in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie as the Cougars salvaged a split with a 3-2 win in the nightcap of a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader played at Coast Guard with Clark as the home team in both games.
In the opener, Clark, as it was on Friday’s opening game of this three-game series, was one out away before Sherman tied the game 3-3 with a single to stun the Cougars for a second straight day.
Laplante’s RBI single to left in the top of the eighth scored sophomore Eric Gerken who collided with the third baseman and was awarded home on obstruction. Gerken drew a two-out walk and moved to second on an error. |

 Eddie Kalankiewicz's two-run single gave the Bears a come-from-behind 7-6 win over Clark. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/18/11)--Junior Eddie Kalankiewicz’s bloop single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth scored two runs as Coast Guard rallied from a 6-1 deficit and scored three runs in the ninth to beat Clark 7-6 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams, the first game of a three-game weekend series.
Coast Guard was held hitless by sophomore Andrew LeBlanc through six innings and six different Cougars had RBI’s as Clark led 6-1 after six innings.
Kalankiewicz broke up LeBlanc’s no-hitter with another bloop hit, a double to center, leading off the seventh. Sophomore Cameron Caroll followed with a single before sophomore Eric Gerken’s two-run double made the score 6-3. Sophomore Ed Sella’ s single scored Gerken and chased LeBlanc, who allowed four hits and four earned runs while waking three and fanning four. |

 Hayley Feindel earned National Player of the Week honors for her performance at the Rebel Games. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/17/11)--Coast Guard pitcher Hayley Feindel has been named the NFCA Division III National Player of the Week for games played February 7-14, the Association has announced. The junior All-American helped the No. 12-ranked Bears to a perfect 10-0 start at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
Feindel was absolutely dominating as she went 10-0 and allowed just one run in 65 innings for a gaudy 0.11 ERA. She threw 55 consecutive scoreless innings to start the season, fired nine complete games, eight shutouts, a no-hitter, a combined no-hitter, a pair of one-hitters an four two-hitters during the week. She allowed just 20 hits while walking 15 and striking out 118 batters.
She became the NEWMAC’s all-time strikeout leader last week, breaking the record of 850 strikeouts in a career held by Nan Duga of Springfield from 1998-2001. |
