Harpswell, ME--(4/23/11)--The 12th ranked Women’s Sailing Team finished 7th at the Reed Trophy for the New England Women’s Championship hosted by Bowdoin College this past weekend.

Their 7th place finish earned the team a berth to the ICSA Sperry Women’s National Championship Semi-Finals to be held in Cascade Locks, OR on May 23-24. This will be the Lady Bears’ first trip to the National Championship since at least 1997.

What turned out to be the only day of racing at the Reed Trophy started out with a strong Southerly with driving rain that turned to snow and sleet during parts of the day. Eight races per division were sailed in a strong current and shifty breeze that ranged from 8-20 knots.

Seniors Krysta Rohde and Tanya Cuprak and sophomore Justine Morrison got off to a strong start in A-Division and never looked back. In a very stacked division, they were in the top-7 in all races except one, keeping the team in a qualifying position for most of the day.
