 Kelsey Freeman had her first career goal and added and assist in the win. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/21/11)--Coast Guard erupted for three goals in a span of 3:33 and scored all six goals in the second half in a 6-0 win over Massachusetts Maritime in a non-conference game.
Freshman Holly Moore broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute taking a pass from sophomore Judy Hooymans and beat freshman goal keeper Emilie Conway.
Junior Kelsey Freeman scored the first goal of her career in the 66th minute starting a streak of three goals in 3:33 for Coast Guard as senior Brittany Fifer (68th minute) and senior Shannah Shelton scored her team-leading fourth goal in the 70th minute. Freeman assisted on Fifers goal while freshman Lindsay Duplessis had her first career assist on the Shelton goal giving the Bears a 4-0 lead. |

 Kelsey Hickle led the Coast Guard attack with ten kills in the win. SOUTH HADLEY, MASS.--(9/20/11)--Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Hickle posted 10 kills and four service aces to lead Coast Guard to a 3-0 victory over host Mount Holyoke in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.
Coast Guard won by game scores of 25-18, 25-12, 25-13.
Hickle was aided by junior outside hitter Keriann Mason, who collected seven kills and eight digs. Classmate Catherine Walker recorded eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Sam Marmolejo chipped in with eight digs. The Bears also received a boost from junior setter Karen Matic, who racked up 30 assists.
The Bears bounced back from a 3-1 loss at Springfield on Saturday which knocked them out of the Top 25. Coast Guard is now 7-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play. |

 The Bears are ranked tenth in the latest New England poll. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/20/11)--The Coast Guard Academy women's cross country team has earned a regional ranking for the first time in five years by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Bears, who have posted back-to-back second place finishes to open the 2011 season, are ranked 10th in the newest New England Division III poll.
Freshman Bethany Gollin was the overall winner leading Coast Guard to a second place finish among 16 teams at the season opening Smith College Invitational. Gollin won with a time of 19:43.
Last week, the Bears placed second at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational, the second place finish ties the program's best finish at that Invitational. |

 Eric Gerken caught a single-game school record 15 passes in the loss. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/17/11)--Sophomore Phil Bigelow carried 21 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns while senior quarterback Anthony Carnevale came off the bench and threw three touchdown passes leading Curry to a 44-21 win over Coast Guard in a non-divisional game between the two New England Football Conference (NEFC) schools.
Coast Guard junior wide receiver Eric Gerken set a single-game school record with 15 receptions in the loss. The old record was 12 held by three players, most recently Rob Bixler vs. Plymouth State in 2002. Gerken finished with a career-high 149 receiving yards in the game.
Bigelow scored the only touchdown of the first quarter on a 17-yard run with 4:32 left in the opening quarter. Freshman Chris Frissore added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. |
