 Blake Maurer won despite a shoulder injury to lead the Bears past Salve Regina. NEWPORT, R.I.--(9/29/09)--Freshman Blake Maurer survived a painful right shoulder and the attacking ground strokes of freshman Chad Strong to clinch the deciding match point in a three-set victory at No. 3 singles as Coast Guard defeated Salve Regina University 5-4.
Maurer served underhanded in both doubles and singles play.
The Seahawks grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles, winning with Strong and sophomore Brian Castrichini over Vince Falco and Cody Isaacson at No. 2 doubles. Another pair of Seahawk freshmen, Aaron Isch and Michael Powell, picked up an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles over Maurer and Anthony Foss. |
