Freshman Erin Nolan scored the game winning goal as the Bears snapped a 23-game NEWMAC losing streak.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/11/08)--Three different players scored as Coast Guard snapped a 23-game losing streak in conference play with a 3-1 win over Smith in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.

Senior Emma Marr gave the Bears a 1-0 lead, 10:02 into the match with junior Katie Kurek assisting.

Coast Guard (5-6, 1-3) increased its lead to 2-0 when freshman Erin Nolan took a pass from classmate Shannah Shelton in the 21st minute and the Bears took that lead into the half.

Volleyball - Bears Win Pair; Beat Brandeis & Keene State

Senior Nicole Gurr had 27 kills as the Bears won twice on Saturday.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/11/08)--Senior Nicole Gurr had 27 kills while classmate Mary Bitzer added 18 kills as Coast Guard came from behind in both matches and swept a tri-match beating Brandeis 3-2 (25-17, 14-25, 9-25, 25-21, 17-15) and Keene State 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16).

The Bears are now 10-9 overall, a perfect 9-0 at home and over .500 for the first time all season.

In the first match of the day, Brandeis beat Coast Guard 25-9 in set three to take a 2-1 lead before the Bears rallied and finished the match with a thrilling 17-15 win in set five.

Gurr had 10 kills, 17 digs and seven blocks while Bitzer added nine kills and nine digs.

Men's Basketball - Johnson Named to Sporting News Preseason All-America team

Senior Craig Johnson earned preseason All-America honors for the second straight season.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/10/08)--Coast Guard Academy senior forward Craig Johnson has been named a preseason honorable mention All-America by The Sporting News for the second straight season.

Johnson and the Bears, won the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament championship and made a magical run all the way to the Elite 8 of the Division III NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. The team finished with a school-record 24 wins (24-7) and was ranked 15th in the final D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, the program’s first ever national ranking.

Men's Soccer - Deneen Strikes in OT Once Again

Senior Peter Deneen scored the game winner in overtime for the second straight time as the Bears remained a perfect 6-0 at home this season.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/8/08)--Senior Peter Deneen scored two goals including the game winner with 2:47 left in the first overtime giving Coast Guard a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Wesleyan in a non-conference game.

It was Deneen’s second consecutive game winning goal in overtime as he scored with 3:21 left in double overtime in a 4-3 win over #15 Wheaton on Friday night.

Deneen gave Coast Guard the early lead as he scored just 1:51 into the game with sophomore Frank Hackett assisting.
