United States Coast Guard Academy - Department of Athletics

Brian Swingly is entering his third year as a co-coach of the Coast Guard Academy Intercollegiate Sailing Team after serving four as the assistant coach. While at the Academy, Brian has helped lead the Bears to a Women's National Championship, two ICSA Sloop Championship and three ICSA Women’s Singlehanded Championship appearances. During the past two seasons, he has helped the women’s team earn some of their highest rankings in several years, both nationally and within the district. Previously, he served as the Head Coach of the 420 Race Team at Hyannis Yacht Club from 2005-2006. In 2006, Brian helped the HYC team win the Team Championship for the Southern Massachusetts Sailing Association.

Brian graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2005 with a degree in Psychology. As a member of the sailing team, he was named captain for his sophomore through senior years. Brian also received the UNH Sailing Team’s MVP award in 2004 and 2005.

Brian remains very active in the racing community and is a member of the Thistle Class. He is a US Sailing certified level 2 coach and a level 1 instructor trainer. Brian currently lives in Stonington, CT.
