Bio: Mark Zagol is entering his third season as Head Coach of the Coast Guard Sailing Team and will be looking to build off of a successful 2006-2007 season. Mark came to the Coast Guard Academy after having served two years as the head sailing coach at Kings Point. Mark started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Old Dominion University where he served as the women’s coach. Mark helped lead the women’s team to numerous victories including the National Championships in 2002. During the 2002-2003 season, Zagol helped in yet another National Championship as he guided ODU to the Women’s Singlehanded National Championship, and finished the year with a third place showing at the Women’s North American Championships.

A graduate of Old Dominion University and a two-time Collegiate All-American, Mark had an impressive collegiate career in the late 90’s. Zagol was part of the winning team at ODU in 1998 when it captured both the ICSA Team Race National Championship as well as the Coed Dinghy National Championships. Mark was recognized his senior year as one of the four finalists for College Sailor of the Year. As part of the ODU team, Mark was named team captain twice and was the team’s MVP in 98.

Mark remains very active in the sailing community and is currently the US National Team Race Champion. Mark currently resides with his wife Heather in Pawcatuck, Conn.
