Bryan is entering his ninth year of coaching at the Academy and is in his sixth year of coach of the Men’s Varsity program and has once again produced a varsity eight with a winning season and a Petite Final berth in the highly competitive New England Championships and an invite to the ECAC National Invitational Regatta. As Men’s Varsity Head Coach, Bryan brought a work ethic and sense of team that continues to build the Men’s program at the Academy. In only his second year at the helm of the Men’s program Bryan produced three medal winning performances at the New England Championships.
Bryan began his rowing career at East Lyme High School then went on to a successful rowing career at Syracuse University, medaling in the IRA’s two years and finishing a strong third in the Varsity 8 race at the Collegiate National Championships held in Cincinnati in 1982. Bryan served as team captain his senior year. During this same time, Bryan rowed for the infamous Blood Street Sculls each summer. He continued to stay actively involved in the sport after college by founding the Crew program at St. Thomas Moore Prep School in 1989. Bryan served as the first coach of that program from 1989 to 1991. Bryan also started the East Lyme Summer Rowing Program for both Middle and High School students, as well as adults. When not on the water, Bryan teaches high school math at New London School. |
