Bio: John begins his 13th season as the head coach of the swimming and diving program. He is the first swimming and diving coach for both the men and women at the Academy. He has led the men’s team to six NEWMAC Championships (1999, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008). He has been named NEWMAC Coach of the Year five times (2000-2001, 2003-2004, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-2008).

Coach Westkott has coached 17 All-America and 12 All-America Honorable Mention athletes in his time at the Academy. The Coast Guard swimmers and divers have also had a NCAA Division III champion, two New England champions, and numerous NEWMAC champions since 1999. There have been several new school records established in that time as well.

Before joining the Academy, John served as an assistant coach for Springfield College from 1996-1999 where he earned his master’s degree in Physical Education. He also was an assistant coach with his father at the University of Rhode Island from 1994-1996, after graduating from URI in 1993 with degrees in English and History. John swam and played water polo at Rhode Island.

The men’s team has a record a dual meet record of 92-25 for an outstanding .786 winning percentage under Westkott.
