Junior Gill Gerton has been named the CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week and the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Bears to back-to-back conference wins for the first time this season.
Gerton had a team-high 15 points to go with eight rebounds in a 64-57 home win over Emerson on Wednesday night before scoring 12 points and grabbing a career-high 21 rebounds in a 63-44 win at Wellesley. During the week, 21 of her 29 rebounds were defensive and she added six assists and a team-high five blocks in the wins.
Her 21 rebounds were one shy of the school-record of 22 rebounds held by Lisa Tamblingson vs. MIT in 1983 and Mary Arvidson vs. Springfield in 2006.
Gill shot 40.7 percent (11-27) during the week and now leads the team with 12 points and 8.6 rebounds per game along with her team-high 28 blocks.
She is closing in on 500 career rebounds as she enters the week with 489 career boards. Gerton is also just five blocks shy of the Coast Guard career record of 93 held by Corinne McCormick (’08).
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday in a key NEWMAC game at Clark at 7:00.
