Coast Guard junior Collis Brown has been named CGASPORTS.com Athlete of the Week after his record-setting day on Saturday. The Kingwood, Texas native hauled in single-game schools records of 16 receptions and 244 receiving yards, while also scoring a pair of touchdowns in a thrilling 41-38 Bears victory over Western New England to help the Bears stay unbeaten in New England Football Conference (NEFC) play at 2-0 (2-3 overall).
Brown, who was named NEFC Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the week following his stand-out performance, had a one-handed, over-the-shoulder 35-yard touchdown catch to get Coast Guard on the board less than three minutes into the game. Later in the first quarter, Brown got behind the defense and after hauling in a pass from freshman quarterback Derek Victory raced untouched into the end zone from 54 yards out.
The starting wide receiver currently leads the NEFC in receptions (29), receiving yards (475), and receiving yards per game (95.0) and is tied for second with four touchdown catches.
Coast Guard will travel to Curry on Saturday at 1:00 pm in an NEFC contest before returning home Saturday, October 19th to host Maine Maritime in the annual homecoming game at 1:30 p.m.
