Sophomore Chasse Sodemann has been named the CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week after his record breaking performance at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship at WPI this weekend leading Coast Guard to a second place finish for the first time since 2012.

The Bears had finished in third place in each of the last four years.

Sodemann  won the 100 breaststroke championship posting a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Open and Championship record, WPI pool record and school record with a time of 54.77 and was also part of the school record breaking 200 medley relay team. Ironically his time of 54.77 would also be an NCAA Division I B cut time.

Sodemann is unbeaten all season in the 100 breaststroke and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship with his record breaking time which is currently fifth best in Division III and earns him a spot at the NCAA Division III Championships at Shenandoah, Texas which take place March 15-19.

He broke his own school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.29 in the morning preliminaries before his championship performance at night.

The Bears 200 medley relay of team of sophomore Patrick Jackson, Sodemann, junior Ross Garrett and freshman Joe Rodriguez set the school record with an NCAA B cut time of 1:31.04.

He also placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with an NCAA B cut time of 2:04.69.
