NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Junior Michael Goldsworthy has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Athlete and the CGASPORTS.COM Athlete of the Week, presented by First Command, for his performance in the Bears 15-0 win over Maine Maritime on Saturday.
Goldworthy had a career-high three interceptions in the Homecoming win, the Bears first shutout of the season. He had interceptions in the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters. He also had four tackles as the Bears held the Mariners to 125 yards of total offense.
He is the first Coast Guard player to record three interceptions in a game since Mark Behne did so in 2015 also against Maine Maritime.
With his three interceptions, Goldsworthy is now in a three-way tie for the NEWMAC lead.
Coast Guard is 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the NEWMAC and will visit unbeaten MIT, the #1 team in New England, on Saturday with a share of first place on the line for the Bears. Kickoff is set for noon.
